The San Diego Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (SDONS) was chartered in 1980. Our chapter members represent veteran and new-to-practice nurses working in various San Diego County health care venues--among them hospitals, ambulatory care centers, private physician practices and pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Our chapter also welcomes members who are non-nurses, who support the mission of ONS--specifically education, professional collegiality and support of efforts to advance excellence in oncology patient care.
SDONS has monthly meetings the third Thursday of the month, usually held at local restaurants or hotels. Each year, chapter members participate in a variety of community projects, including annual breast cancer walks, celebrations of survivorship, health fairs and outreach to the underserved. Among benefits of membership are regular opportunities to apply and/or be granted scholarships to local and national oncology nursing conferences. Of special interest over the near few months will be planning and preparatory activities to host the 2010 ONS Congress in San Diego.
